10 Personal care tips to share

Some personal care/hygiene tips I thought I’d share(..or rather, reinforce)

  1. Always brush your teeth before you sleep. I know too many people who don’t(because people always stay over at my place! :D). Do not belittle what might seem like, just lazy oral hygiene. Did you know that, a minor thing like - being lazy to brush teeth at night can cause a cervical spine injury? Yes, its that bad. I’ve seen a patient in one of my postings - he had a cervical spine injury and had a Halo vest screwed onto his head to support the neck. Reason? Poor oral hygiene.
  2. Always wash your hands with soap. I use dettol handwash at home. Also, do disinfect your keyboards and mouses once in a while. Whilst gathering articles for my evidence based practice, according to the British journal for infection control, pathogens may be transmitted from door knobs, handles to tech stuffs we use nowadays - keyboards, mouses, handphones. Drying your hands after washing is vital, too. If you’re lazy, a non-rinse alcohol rub/hand sanitizer actually proves more effective in removing pathogens!
  3. If you wear spectacles, or have accessories such as rings, or hair brushes, et cetera - do wash them with soap while you’re in the bath.
  4. Sunscreen should be applied daily. If i were to explain it, its gonna be so long. So, don’t be lazy, go google it. And no, its not sissy to apply sunscreen. Just wake up 5 mins earlier every morning.
  5. Change your pillow cases every 2 days, change your bed sheets every week, and try to wash your blankets every 2 weeks.
  6. Walk the dog - its beneficial for both you, and the dog! Contributes a lot to the overall well-being.
  7. Always wondered why you’re all so sleepy and yawn-y after lunch despite having a full 8 hours sleep the night before? Eating foods with low glycemic index will make you a lot less lethargic after lunch, and more energetic/attentive at work/school.
  8. Offer to help your mum/wife in doing some household chores such as vacumming/mopping the floor, and get your sedentary ass off the computer chair. Sitting too much can develop pressure sores on your sacral area..!
  9. Try to take some time off the monitor screen and stare out of the window - Use that time to re-boot the computer! Makes the computer a lot less laggy too. ^^”
  10. Thought that 8 hours of sleep is the recommended optimal amount? …Not. Too much sleep is bad for you. According to BBC News, a study that included more than one million participants found people who slept eight hours or more died younger. You can read the article here. In short, the recommended amount is 6-7 hours a night, which would be more conducive to a longer life. In my opinion, it’s not just a longer life, but a better quality of life too. Sleepy too much/too little never fails to make me disinterested in many day-to-day activities.
