I ♥ Hospital attachment

Day 1 @ a neurology ward ^^;

.

The Sister(Nurse Officer) of the ward wasn’t too pleased about us(or rather, at the school) going there for attachment though. Because a Neurology ward is a highly *Specialized* ward and we haven’t learned too much regarding the neuro area. Initially the 7 of us were quite demoralized after seeing Sister’s displeasure and her making it sound all so tough. Invoked fear in us and all.

.

Thank goodness my lecturer is just so wonderful, with all the encouragement and support she gave us while she promised she’d be with us thruout the entire attachment and would give Sister’s feedback to the school and make arrangements for a ward transfer if the need be. *w* I ♥ you, Ms Sandra~!

.

Was rather apprehensive with a sense of feeling unwanted when we stepped into our individual assigned rooms/cubicles. And Thankfully yet gain, the Staff Nurses there are sooo wonderful too! What a relief. ♥ I started adapting to the ward a lot faster than my first posting, thanks to the nice and helpful staff nurses. :3

.

First Day and I did quite a lot of stuffs already. ^^; I’m really happy when I deliver nursing care! It somehow manages to invokes joy in me. ^_^ Even simple tasks like feeding the elderly patients with stroke, changing their diapers, cleaning them, assisting them in their daily activities, these minor tasks alone make me feel really happy because I know I’m making them feel a lot better, especially so when they thank me with a sweet smile. You can feel the genuine appreciation. :3 幸せですですです!!

Though yes, of course, what I do is more than just those minor tasks.. There’s documentation and a lot more other stuffs to do, like Vital signs taking, and et cetera. But the seemingly minor tasks are what that makes the patients feel a lot better. You don’t exactly see a patient feeling much grateful for giving them injections or feeding them a LOT of medicine. ^^; You get ze idea.

.

I hope I’m of help to the staff nurses too. :3 I’m just a student nurse so there are some stuffs which I’m not allowed to do yet, but I shall try my best to do whatever I can, as much as possible. I think I was of help to the Staff Nurses. At least, I think. ^^”?

.

Helps a lot too that the patients in my current ward are really appreciative elderlies who kept thanking me and smiling sweetly at me.

Helps a LOT especially since the previous ward I went to had rather fierce/demanding/un-appreciative patients and the staff nurses back then there were way too busy to care about me. ^^”

.

I administered fleet enema for the first time today, under the supervision of a staff nurse. It’s amazing how I can poke the fleet enema, which is at least 6cm long, through the rectum. I mean, yeaaaah I know about that via reading theory and all, but when you really do it… woah. O___O;; I hope it wasn’t too uncomfortable for the uncle ne.

.

There’s quite a lot of new Neuro terms that I’ve been introduced to today, while browsing case notes with my lecturer. Shall do more research on them. Though our student scopes are just to learn basically what we learned during the semester, since I’m attached to a specialized ward, and I may never get a chance to go back there when I’m more learned, I shall take the opportunity to learn as much as I can now. :3

.

Feels really happy na~ Amusingly, during last week’s polyclinic attachment, I did nothing but observing and was sitting all the way — but everyday after I ended polyclinic attachment I was exhausted(from the boredom?). D:

.

Today @ the Neurology ward, its been a busy day, I got to do many stuffs, I’ve been standing/bustling around all day. Surprisingly, I actually feel all charged up even though work has ended for the day! Guess its the endorphins that made my day, especially knowing I made the patients feel better.

.

I’ll put in my very best! ^_^ Hopefully the remaining 9 days at the ward would be just as fulfilling. :3

.

On a side note, after so many months of receiving the scholarship monthly~ I finally received my sponsored student staff card from SGH(Singapore General Hospital)! Yatta~ \o/ Now I can finally enter the staff library, buy medical texts, lunch and what-not for cheap(er)~ *beams* :D

.

Really glad I chose Nursing. I’m still smiling to myself while typing this entry. Lol!

.

♥, Kaori.
