Clinical attachment @ Polyclinic

^ Stack of health promotion pamphlets I collected during my 1 week attachment at a Polyclinic ^^ (been making full use of my camera phone xD snapping many stuffs)

.

For those overseas who don’t know, there are many polyclinics in almost every estate of Singapore, delivering healthcare at low-costs for the benefit of the community. You can read more about the wide range of services here.

.

Was attached there for 1 week of observation because there may not be a chance to go back to the polyclinics again, so its good for us to at least know what’s going on in the polyclinic (community health sector) while we work in the hospitals.

.

Real eye-opener ne. Got attached to different clinics everyday, so I got to see the different services offered, administered and such. Got attached to:

- health counseling clinic,

- smoking cessation clinic,

- traveller’s clinic,

- immunization clinics,

- diabetic retinopathy photography clinic,

- screening clinics(for Hepatitis/HIV/Rubella/Thalassaemia & etc),

- nursing procedures clinic,

- wound dressing clinic,

- developmental screening clinic,

- women’s services clinic(Pap smear, family planning, ante-natal care & etc).

.

Some significant experiences were

- observing how a pap smear was done,

- IUCD (intrauterine contraceptive device) being inserted into the uterus at the women’s clinic,

- seeing how an screenshot image(Coool…O_O) was captured during the eye screening for diabetic retinopathy photography, and the

- immunization clinics because of all the cute babies! Where I got to observe over and over again how vaccinations are mixed, prepared, administering of injections and such.

.

2 weeks of clinical attachment at a Neurology ward in the Hospital starts tomorrow..! Exciting desu. Planning learning objectives now and revising my nursing lab workbook. ^^;

.

I hope I manage to fall asleep tonight… ^^” Don’t wanna end up like a zombie like how I was last Monday without sleep. >_<!

.

^ Pass by this ROM(range of movements) exercise station everyday when I walk Bomber at the park. ^^; I think this recent installment is awesome~ they’ve been installing this at every few housing blocks. It’s a lot better than the older exercise stations which were more for hmm, muscle/strength/endurance training? These new ROM ones are easy to do for all ages, especially beneficial for the elderly without being too taxing and good for their joints. See people of all ages making full use of it too daily. Awesome aaa~ (snapshot taken via my phone lolz)
