Of figurines & what-not
Never made a post about this (sooo many pics, so little time for posts ._.), but for my dear geek’s 22nd birthday during March last year, I got him a 1/6 MaxFactory DoA Kasumi figurine. ^^;
.

^Here’s an official pic of it because the pics I took sucked xD

^Took this pic of it in dear geek’s room. Lighting sucks though ^^” Please don’t kill me for doing no justice to Kasumi. Kasumi’s standing on top of his CPU. ahah

^Cleavage desu ^_~*
.
It’s been almost a year since I got him that figurine for his birthday last year! However, Kasumi seems to be bending forward more and more though.
Maybe the boobs are too heavy?
.
Anyway, seeing how much he liked the figurine compared to previous birthday presents he got from me for the past few years — I made up my mind to get him figurines for his birthday every year
I think figurines make an excellent birthday present if you have an otaku boyfriend, because not only does he like and want it, the fact that you gave it to him makes it even more symbolic and whenever he looks at it he thinks of you. 8D
.

^ Getting this 1/8 Kotobukiya Shana figurine for his 23rd birthday this year. He loves the hair! Crazy shana fan. As much as I’m a little annoyed that Shana’s on his desktop wallpaper and all, I’m being contradicting by giving him a Bikini Shana for his birthday huh. ^^”
.
>> Here’s a question, what do you think of guys who like figurines? Last year, when I was buying the 1/6 DoA Kasumi figurine, my best female friend was with me. While she went shopping with me hunting at all the local figurine shops, she was saying, “euw.. that’s so fetish”, “if my boyfriend ever buys something like this i will kill him”, “how come you don’t mind”, “so despo and pervert sial”.
Haha. What do you think?
.
Well, in a way, I kinda understand, because my thoughts on it were that way too, before I got otaku-influenced by my boyfriend (I only wore Gothic Lolita Fashion and did Visual Kei cosplay of my favourite Jrock bands back then) ^^;
I guess, for most normal girls, they may actually find it quite a turn-off and thinks that the guy is very ecchi/nerdy by buying the figurines.. but if you actually get to understand it, I don’t think it’s really the case?
.
I know for my boyfriend its just.. hmm how should i describe it. The appreciation of how well the figurine is sculpted of his favourite anime character’s image? Yeah. Not for ecchi/wank purposes like what most girls would think
Why do you like figurines..? ^^
.
Talking about that~ I guess it’d be stereotypical to say only girls who aren’t into otaku think that way. Reminds me that normal guys think that way too ^_^
.
My geek’s best bud(male, not otaku) was at his house, and when he saw the Kasumi figurine –
he was all like, “Woah, your girlfriend doesn’t mind?”,
and my geek replied, “She bought it for me ^___^”,
His best bud, “O_O okay…”
.
Lol ^^”

^ Credits to Shiro A for the photography. October 2005 with dear geek(lol he was still serving army back then X_X).

^ June 2005 with ze dear geek. Oh yeah I was a blondie with green eyes~~~ xD My geek is pretty huh? 8D Most people think he’s my Butch Girlfriend, Lol! Actually, I’m cosplaying Hina Ichigo from Rozen Maiden in this puri. It’s not obvious in the puri but you can probably tell from the following picture….

Yeah, I agree with your BF, appreciation of the anime… There’s a passion there.
I think I wrote something about this on Danny Choo’s or some otaku-club website ages ago… For me, an anime figure typically serves as an “uncopyable” physical proof or memory of a favorite series. Much more concrete and “graspable” than an endlessly copyable digital file… Beyond the physical, I also like the mystical idea that a figure “chooses” you, not the other way around (like Rozen Maiden, lol).
But it doesn’t hurt if the figure is easy on the eyes, lol. ^_^;

was the blonde hair a wig? how do you wear it so well if so?
and if it was real and you dyed it, where did you do it and what is the approximate price?
also, is it hard to maintain? (e.g cos of roots/unruliness)
thanks in advance!

Yes!
A figure is a piece of art… I buy figures cuz I appreciate the sculpts… not for perverted purposes.

Jay> yeah, lol. xD
grace> the blonde hair was a wig ^^ you can either tuck your real hair under a wig cap, or just pin them all up. then wear the wig over, and try to pull it more downwards so you can’t see the hairline
i bleached my hair blonde before too, did it at http://www.thehairsecret.com, for about SGD$120. but yeah, bleached blonde hair’s really hard to maintain.. hate the regrowth, and it damaged my hair real bad.
hope this helps, and sorry for the late reply..!
samejima> yeah ^^; & thanks for the comment!
